The Division of General Internal Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine is recruiting a full time Academic Hospitalist with some non-teaching responsibilities. As one of 30 hospitalists, this individual will be predominately based on our teaching hospitalist service with contribution to our non-teaching services. The teaching hospitalist program at Maryland was created in order to provide 24/7 coverage of a general medical inpatient service at the University of Maryland Medical Center. On this service the individual will be expected to enhance supervision and education of medical students and residents, facilitate bed control, direct admissions as needed, and decrease patient length of stay, costs per case, and re-admission rates.

Non-teaching responsibilities as an Intermediate Care Hospitalist in the Medical IMC will include inpatient coverage and serves to expedite transfers from our acute care units, the Emergency Department and the Medical Intensive Care Unit.

Candidates must be board certified/eligible in internal medicine and eligible for an unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Maryland. This position also requires a medical degree from a recognized accredited domestic university (or foreign equivalent), a strong commitment to patient care and education, and the ability to work well in a team setting. Expected faculty rank is Assistant Professor or higher, however, final rank, tenure status and salary will be commensurate with the selected candidate’s qualifications and experience.
